Failure of Fibrous Composite Plates under Static Biaxial Planar Loading

چکیده
This paper outlines an experimental investigation carried out for the analysis of failure mechanisms in fibrous laminated composite plates containing stress raisers, in the form of cutouts, under static biaxial planar compressive loadiing. A specially designed biaxial loadiing frame was used to test a series of 48 ply graphite/epoxy composite laminated plates with centrally located circular holes under various compressive loading ratios. Experimental results revealed failure initiation to occur in the O0 plies at the edge of the hole, in the form of fiber kinking, for the Quasi-Isotropic and Generally Orthotropic specimens. Biaxial failure mechanisms exhibited a shift in the location of failure initiation at the hole edge as compared to the uniaxial cases. The Shear Dominated specimens exhibited large inplane wavelength microbuckles under uniaxial loading, and shear induced delaminations for the biaxial loadings.

In this paper, we have used numerical simulation to study failure of adhesive joints in composite plates. To determine the failure load, adhesive joints are subjected to different types of loading and gradual failure of the joint is studied using the finite element method. The composite material failure theory is implemented into the FEM software. Also different geometries for the joint edge ar...
متن کاملBuckling Behavior of Composite Plates with a Pre-central Circular Delamination Defect under in-Plane Uniaxial Compression
Delamination is one of the most common failure modes in composite structures. In the case of in-plane compressional loading, delamination of a layered flat structure can cause a local buckling in delaminated area which subsequently affects the overall stiffness of the initial structure. This leads to an early failure of the overall structure. Moreover, with an increase in load, the delaminated ...
متن کاملIsogeometric-Based Modeling and Analysis of Laminated Composite Plates Under Transverse Loading
Analysis of the laminated composite plates under transverse loading is considered using the new method of Isogeometric Analysis (IGA). Non-Uniform Rational B-Splines(NURBS)are used as shape functions for modeling the geometry of the structure and also are used as shape functions in the analysis process. To show robustness of the new technique, some examples are represented and are compared with...

In this paper, three dimensional (3D) static and dynamic analysis of thick plates based on the Meshless Local Petrov-Galerkin (MLPG) is presented. Using the kinematics of a three-dimensional continuum, the local weak form of the equilibrium equations is derived. A weak formulation for the set of governing equations is transformed into local integral equations on local sub-domains by using a uni...
